Listen to Your Heart
A common perception of a heart attack is a sudden chest pain that strikes with intense and unmistakable certainty. Sometimes, however, heart attacks aren’t as easy to identify. Learning to recognize the multiple symptoms that may present with a heart attack is important. Seeking immediate medical attention if you immediately recognize the symptoms or may be unsure is essential.
There are symptoms that can differ from men and women but there are symptoms that both genders may experience.
Symptoms may include:
- Severe pressure, fullness, squeezing, pain and/or discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts for more than a few minutes
- Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach
- Shortness of breath
- Breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness
If these symptoms appear, call 9-1-1 immediately. Emergency medical services can begin treatment as soon as they arrive and if it is a heart attack, time can be crucial.
